Write for us
Eastern Film Journal welcomes pitches and contributions that bring a specific, well-framed subject in Eastern European film culture into focus. Send proposals through the Contact page; unsolicited material is considered, not guaranteed publication.
What fits
We are interested in thoughtful writing about national cinemas, film history, screen forms, languages and the ways films travel. A strong contribution has a clear subject and gives readers a useful way to see it, rather than making broad claims about an entire country or region.
Make the pitch specific
Tell us the working idea, the central question and why it suits Eastern Film Journal. Mention the films or material you plan to discuss, the shape of the piece and any relevant sources or experience. Keep the proposal focused enough that its scope is easy to understand.
Originality and care
Contributions should be original, accurate and attentive to cultural context. Explain unfamiliar terms, separate evidence from interpretation and flag any rights or image considerations. Do not submit confidential material or claim access you cannot substantiate.
How to send a proposal
Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option for a pitch. Include your name, a way to reply and a concise proposal. Please wait for a response before sending a full draft; publication is not assured.
